What the future holds for Chalk, Cherries and Chairs

What the future holds for Chalk, Cherries and Chairs

We are delighted that the Chalk, Cherries and Chairs Landscape Partnership Scheme has been extended until November 2024, giving us more time for our projects, but also the opportunity to work on our legacy. We want to leave lasting impacts for wildlife, heritage and people across the Central Chilterns, with many of things we have put in place continuing beyond us and into the future.

Our legacy

The Chalk, Cherries and Chairs Landscape Partnership Scheme has been running since 2019 and is due to wrap-up in November 2024. The Scheme was set up to face the challenges to the Central Chilterns of the day: the development of HS2; the loss and fragmentation of ancient woodland and other wildlife habitats through development; the disappearance of traditional orchards and hedgerows; and an increasing disconnect between people and their local landscape.

The Scheme works across three themes – wildlife, heritage and people. Under these themes, there sits a whole host of projects interweaving topics such as volunteering, engagement, research, restoration and enhancement in order to deliver tangible, on-the-ground benefits and a lasting legacy for our landscape. We have created Farmer Clusters to bring people together to care for wildlife, increased and expanded wildlife monitoring, fostered partnership working, and helped people to take action for wildlife and heritage within the Chilterns, whether through volunteering, community planning, or simply enjoying the landscape through walks, talks and events.

We still have much to do in terms of ensuring activites are continued where appropriate, and support and signposting is in place for when the Scheme ends. But we are looking forward to the coming celebrations of our work – all that we have achieved over five years and all that may come in the future … so watch this space!

A message for everyone taking part in Chalk, Cherries and Chairs

With just a few months before the end of the Scheme, we are already seeing some of our delivery work wrapping up. As our projects come to an end, we’d like to take this chance to say THANK YOU for being part the Scheme – whether you’ve helped to research the lives of woodlanders from the past or set up a community orchard, been part of our Steering Group or helped manage finances, we want to thank you for contributing to the Partnership and to local wildlife and landscapes, all of which will leave a lasting legacy for local communities and nature.

Thanks to an extension of our National Lottery Heritage Funding, CCC is continuing until November 2024, allowing us time for reporting back to our funders and to look at what the Scheme’s legacy will be. Although some of our delivery leads and partners may be leaving for pastures new, there is still support available for when you need it across the CCC Partnership. This website signposts some of that support, but it is just a starting point, and will be added to over time – we hope it will lead you on to finding more ways to enjoy your local landscape, help local wildlife, and work together.

Please do sign up to our CCC newsletter and the Chilterns National Landscapes newsletter to continue to recive information on what is happening with the Scheme and across the Chilterns as a whole.

We wish you success in the future, from the Chalk, Cherries and Chairs team.

Don’t stop doing what you’re doing!

Chalk, Cherries and Chairs is still going, but even after our funding is finished, we want to make sure that our work and your input continues far into the future. Whether it’s partners taking on aspects of our projects, or community groups now up-and-running and able to work independently, we don’t want you to stop doing what you’re doing for wildlife, heritage and people!

Continue volunteering or joining in however you can! Take a look at the following for inspiration:
