Join the BBOWT team and local geologist, Nick Pierpont, for a guided geology and wildlife walk around College Lake.

We start our journey 100 million years ago as the Cretaceous seas in which thick sequences of chalk were deposited. It is the chalk bed-rock which influences the distinctive landscape of the Chilterns. We shall also consider the evidence for climate change over the last 2.5million years, before discussing the recent past and the chalk extraction in the 20th Century. Bring your binoculars and walking boots!

There will be a hot drink to enjoy at the end!

There is parking available at the site.

Additional information

The landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage of the Chiltern Hills has been shaped by its underlying chalk bedrock – formed millions of years ago, but still having an impact today. Our Chilterns Chalk Festival celebrates this connection to our landscape, both ancient and modern. Find out more.
