This is a linear walk from Amersham new town to the historical old town through rolling countryside. We will stop and sketch on the way. We will look out for birds, plants and nature and learn something of the history and geology of the area, including the chalk stream that runs through the valley.

This is an introduction on how to use your sketchbook to enhance your walks. We will quickly sketch countryside scenes and some of the delightful quirky buildings. We finish in the Old Town where there are toilets and cafes where you can buy lunch (or bring your own) and you can continue to sketch at your leisure. There are buses and taxis back to the start point at the station or it’s a lovely 20 walk.

Additional information

Bring a hardbacked sketch book, pencil or pen as a minimum. We generally sketch standing but you are welcome to bring a folding stool or sit-mat. Bring something to drink. You can either bring a packed lunch/refreshments for after the walk or go to one of the many cafes in the old town. There are buses back to the start point so you may need some money for the fare.

Accessibility info: The ground is uneven and steep in places. No stiles, Could be muddy depending on the weather. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
