About
The Chilterns National Landscape is a nationally protected area with the same protections in planning law and policy as those afforded to National Parks
The Chilterns National Landscape a special place; its distinctive character and natural beauty are so precious that it is in the nation’s interest to safeguard them. The Chilterns National Landscape is a nationally protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) with the same protections in planning law and policy as those afforded to National Parks. The planning system shapes new development, making sure it is positive for people, the economy and the environment, and protects areas of importance for heritage, culture and nature, including our National Landscapes and their special qualities.
The planning system also allows local people to have a vision for their local patch by building a Neighbourhood Plan – a process that allows whole communities to get involved in enhancing, protecting and developing their area.
Follow the links below to discover more about planning and policy, and how this toolkit can help you to protect and enhance your local patch both for the benefit of those living there, but also for the wider environment.
