West Wycombe Hill
Famous locally for the Dashwood Mausoleum and the Hellfire Caves, not many people realise that West Wycombe Hill is a common steeped in history.
An ancient fort sits at the top of the hill, between the mausoleum and the church. You can still see the old banks and deep ditches that were the fort’s defences today.
Class 4 at West Wycombe Combined School made a film about their local common. Follow this link to watch “The Hill – past, present, future” to discover what makes this common so special.
Explore this common and the surrounding area on the West Wycombe to Bradenham walk.
West Wycombe Hill is owned and managed by the National Trust.
