Date: Sunday, 26 April, 2026

Start time: We will start at 9am prompt from Lewknor. We usually start at 10am but as the days are longer and brighter, we will start at 9am to finish earlier.

Expected end time: Around 12 noon, depending on our pace, rest pauses and discussions. Please allow until 12:30.

Intensity, distance and pace: Moderate intensity and you need to be reasonably fit to walk approx. 6-7 miles of countryside style walking at a casual conversation pace. There will be two main inclines, and the rest of the walk will be fairly flat. We always do our very best to include people of all paces, but this walk does require a reasonable level of fitness.

Route overview: Lewknor-Chiltern Hills-Bald Hill-Ridgeway. From our Lewknor starting point, we will walk up to Bald Hill (fairly steep in places, 750ft elevation up and down). At the top of Bald Hill, we have two Dadima’s benches overlooking breathtaking views of the Chilterns, where we will pause and reflect, you can enjoy your drinks or any snacks. Some of you may have attended Dadima’s Legacy walk event last year and watched the film.

Walking with Dadima’s

From Bald Hill, we will walk through Shirburn Woods, returning via the Ridgeway back to our starting point in Lewknor.

Theme: how can nature help us to age well?

This walk marks the birthday of Dadima, the grandmother who inspired our family community enterprise several years ago. One of the things we encourage walkers to do as part of this nature community is connect, talk, and share knowledge about nature and healthy lifestyles. In this walk, we would like to open up gentle conversations around what it means to “age well” and any tips that you may wish to share with others. Dadima’s is working closely with the Open University on their ageing well research and public series talks and you can read more here:

Ageing Well Public Talks series | Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies

Ageing well can involve small consistent habits, and Geeta and Subash will share a few simple habits that they have implemented into their daily/weekly lives, and do feel free to share your own if you are keen to.

Starting point details: We will start at the Lewknor/Watlington ‘usual’ meeting place. Useful postcode: OX495TJ (near the Lewknor bus-stop).

See details under FAQ Dadima’s Walks FAQs | Chilterns National Landscape | Chilterns National Landscape – also pasted details below for your ease:

We will meet at the M40, Junction 6 layby, signposted Watlington/Princes Risborough in Oxfordshire.

If travelling Northbound: Get off the M40 at Junction 6, signposted Watlington/Princes Risborough. As soon as you exit the slip road, you’ll come to a T-junction. Turn immediate left (towards Watlington) and park in the free lay-by area where you’ll see several cars near a bus-stop. I’m usually standing there with my husband, around 10-15 minutes before the start time of the walk.

If travelling Southbound: Get off the M40 at Junction 6, signposted Watlington/Princes Risborough. As soon as you exit the slip road, you’ll come to a T-junction. Turn right (towards Watlington). Drive approximately 300m (you’ll drive under the motorway bridge) and you’ll see the lay-by for parking.

Walk leader details: Dadima’s (Geeta and Subash Ludhra). We will be in the layby parking area from 8.45am to greet you. Geeta’s mobile number if needed: 07946 527630.

Cost: Free to attend.

Booking/contact details/whatsapp group: No need to book for this walk but it is always useful to know who is attending in advance. You can email Subash on subash@dadimas.co.uk or text Geeta on 07946-527630. We can add you to the one-way traffic Dadima’s whatsapp group for ease of keeping up-to-date on our monthly nature events.

Please bring/wear:

  • Suitable walking shoes and clothing for the weather. Shoes should be sturdy and provide enough support for uneven walking surfaces, with some grip.
  • Sun hat/cap, sunglasses, sunblock as needed.
  • Please bring a flask of water/soft drink, hot drink, light snacks as needed to suit your personal needs.
  • Any medication that you may need to stay comfortable (hay fever medication, asthma inhaler). We do carry a basic first aid kit and are both qualified first aiders as walk leaders.
  • Walking poles maybe useful for this walk if you have them. We have two spare sets so let us know if you would like to borrow them and we will bring them along for anyone who may welcome them.

Facilities: There are no toilet facilities along this walk but you can stop at the Leathern Bottle pub (close to the starting point) afterwards for a drink or bite to eat. Home | The Leathern Bottle
