Overview
Whiteleaf Hill is a nature reserve that provides a wonderful view across the Vale of Aylesbury and the Wessex Downs. Along with the sunning views, Whiteleaf Hill has an array of different habitats, home to a wide selection of flora and fungi. Below the viewing point is the Whiteleaf cross, a 100m figure carved into the hillside, dominating the landscape since 1742.
From the car park, with it’s steep incline and uneven surface, the walk crosses The Nature Trail, through a wooded area. After leaving the wooded cover, the walk comes to wooden gate which opens outwards with an easy access handle, with a width of 161cm. After a gentle incline on an earth path the walk reaches a platform at the top of the hill with a fantastic view of the surrounding area. There is a viewing area below here, but this is not accessible for anyone who lives with a mobility or visual impairment.
Whiteleaf Hill is not a location for the fainthearted. It’s not the most accessible of sites, with many barriers to overcome. It is a great place for a picnic, to experience nature, to walk a dog or just to feel the wind on your face looking at the countryside below. Just know it might be harder than you’d hoped.
