Staff update: the end of an era

This month we bid a fond farewell to two much-loved members of the Chilterns National Landscape team.

Neil Jackson is retiring from his role as Conservation and Landscape Officer, and after 20 years at the helm of the Chilterns Chalk Streams Project (CCSP), Allen Beechey is moving on to pastures new.

Within a week of joining the team back in March 2010, Neil’s role quickly became defined by the announcement of plans to route HS2 through the heart of the Chilterns.

He was quickly drawn into the challenges and opportunities of the high-speed rail proposals, working closely with colleagues, partners, and local communities who shared a strong commitment to caring for this special landscape.

“In my almost 50 years of work, without a shadow of a doubt, this has been the best job I’ve ever had,” he said.

“I have many happy memories to take with me into retirement, so a big thank you to you all!”

Reflecting on his time with CCSP, Allen said he is sad to be leaving the project and its team but feels it’s time for a new challenge.

“I am immensely proud to have led the project for so many years and of the work the project has done to help reverse the decline of the Chilterns’ precious chalk streams,” he said.

“It has been a privilege to work with so many passionate and committed volunteers and local river groups who care so much for their rivers and streams.”

Allen and Neil have been valued members of the team, and their hard work and dedication over many years has been vital in conserving and enhancing the Chilterns. They will be missed by colleagues and we wish them both all the best for the future!
