UNEARTHED. An exhibition of Place, Memory and Material. Exhibition

An exhibition of artworks by Emma Przygrodzka, Phillipa Shire Oudekerk and Sarah Horlock in response to the University of Reading’s archaeological excavation of an Anglo Saxon monastic site alongside the Thames at Cookham. Exploring how objects, materials and traces of making connect us with lives over 1,300 years ago.  Part of The Friends of Cookham Abbey’s ongoing commitment to artistic collaboration and creative engagement with heritage.

Emma Przygrodzka explores clay, memory and place through ceramic responses to Saxon Pottery, reimagining vessels shaped by touch and time.

Phillipa Shire Oudekerk works with fragments, impressions and materials gathered from the excavation, creating pieces that reflect landscape, discovery and memory.

Sarah Horlock responds to archaeological traces of remembrance, using porcelain and print to explore memorial, record and gestures of care that remain.

Together these artworks form UNEARTHED – an exhibition exploring material, memory and human traces that endure.

The exhibition is part of Cookham and Maidenhead Arts Trail (CAMAT), which celebrates local artistic talent across a range of venues in Cookham and Maidenhead.

​This free annual event invites the public to explore artists’ studios and exhibition spaces, meet artists in person, and view a diverse range of original work including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and printmaking.
