Nature Recovery Plan
Ideas and guidance for restoring nature in the Chilterns
The Nature Recovery Plan brings together the latest evidence and local knowledge to help restore habitats, strengthen biodiversity, and support resilient landscapes across the Chilterns.
It is designed to be used alongside the Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) produced by local authorities, and the Chilterns Management Plan. Together, these tools provide a clear pathway from landscape-scale priorities through to on-the-ground action.
How to use the Nature Recovery Plan
Nature recovery in the Chilterns follows a simple, joined-up process:

1. Start with Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS)
Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) are the starting point for nature recovery planning.
They identify priority habitats and opportunities for enhancement at a local authority level.
Access your local LNRS map:

2. Use the Nature Recovery Plan
Once you know how your land could contribute, the Nature Recovery Plan helps you understand how to do it. Use this guide to find out more about the priority habitats and species in the Chilterns National Landscape and the conditions that they need to thrive.

3. Get access to support and funding
The Chilterns National Landscape team can support landowners, managers, local authorities and partners to turn plans into action.
This includes:
- Practical advice and guidance
- Linking actions to LNRS priorities
- Support with funding applications (including FiPL)
- Connecting land managers and partners

The Nature Recovery Plan sits within a wider framework for managing and restoring the Chilterns National Landscape.
The Management Plan for the Chilterns National Landscape sets the long-term vision and strategic direction for the area, guiding how the landscape is conserved, enhanced and enjoyed.
The Nature Recovery Plan supports this vision by providing practical, evidence-based guidance to help deliver nature recovery on the ground.
Looking ahead, a Climate Change Adaptation Plan will be developed by 2028, helping to ensure that nature recovery and land management across the Chilterns are resilient to a changing climate.
Get involved!
You do not need to be a landowner, farmer, or local authority to support nature recovery in the Chilterns.
Simple actions in gardens, communities, and everyday life all contribute to restoring nature across the landscape.
