Seven Ways Plain
Seven Ways Plain is situated in the southern part of Burnham Beeches, in the Unitary Authority of Buckinghamshire and the name indicates the junction of several tracks in a former woodland clearing.
The remains of the Iron Age hillfort were listed by Historic England as a Scheduled Monument in 1996.
Quarrying activities in previous centuries and military use of the ground during WWII means that the original structure has been modified, although the greater part of the hillfort remains substantially intact. The change of management and grazing practises in the last century also led the site to be overgrown by vegetation. The presence of mature beeches indicates that the route was abandoned several centuries ago, probably at the time quarrying ended.
The scrub clearing will help preserve the site that is also a popular destination amongst local visitors and the LiDAR data made available hopefully will reveal more about the history of the site.
