Wendover Woods

Wendover Woods

Waymarked walks of different lengths through scenic woodland with a popular play trail, cafe, information, cycling, fitness trail and lots more.

Wendover Woods is a 325 hectare open access woodland site managed by Forestry England. It is situated on the edge of the Chilterns escarpment and is a great place to take the family, with a popular play trail, a cafe, children’s adventure playground and a fitness trail. For those that fancy a challenge there is also the Go Ape high wire forest adventure.

Wendover Woods has year-round interest, from beautiful displays of bluebells in the spring to barbecues and picnics in the summer followed by swathes of autumn colours as the trees turn and crisp winter walks. In quieter areas you can watch woodland birds, including the rare firecrest if you’re lucky and you may see deer. There is also archaeological interest in the form of Boddington hillfort and the Woods contain the highest point in the Chilterns (267m).

Firecrest Trail: A 3 mile signposted trail through the habitat of the firecrest, europe’s smallest bird. There is also a bird hide on the trail, set high amongst the trees for a better glimpse of the elusive firecrest.

Family Cycle Trail: A well surfaced trail with climbs and descents. There is a dedicated downhill mountain biking facility at nearby Aston Hill for mountain bikers wanting a challenge (Please note: Aston Hill is currently closed and is due to reopen in 2025. Please chceck the Forestry England website for more and latest information).

Easy Access Trail: see downloadable map below.

Horse-riding: there is an extensive network of permissive bridlepaths within the woods. A permit is required to use these trails.

Go Ape: a high wire adventure course through the trees open to adults and over-10’s. A great, fun challenge with tarzan swings and thrilling zip wires to add to the excitement! And you get to see the Woods from a whole new viewpoint.
