Angling Spring Wood

This wood is great for bluebells in spring and has various trails through it.

Roald Dahl, the famous children’s author, used to walk in Angling Spring Wood.

From his home, Gipsy House, he would walk past the Witches’ Tree which inspired the story Fantastic Mr Fox.  Unfortunately, this tree blew down in a storm in 2003 and continues to lie where it fell, half way up the hill.

It was probably Angling Spring Woods which inspired the woods featured in Danny the Champion of the World.

Angling Spring Wood is an ancient woodland and contains some rare slugs and fungi.

To find out more visit the Angling Spring Wood website.  Here you can download a magical woodland audio trail to listen to on your MP3 player as you walk through the trees.
