A new CHAP-ter for Chilterns Heritage and Archaeology Partnership

Chilterns Heritage and Archaeology Partnership (CHAP) becomes an independent social enterprise, expanding its role across the wider Chilterns landscape.

The Chilterns Heritage and Archaeology Partnership (CHAP) has transitioned into an independent Community Interest Company – CHAP CIC – strengthening heritage and archaeological work across the Chilterns.

Originally established in 2022 by the Chilterns National Landscape as a strategic innovation, CHAP was created to ensure that heritage objectives received the dedicated expertise and capacity they require. Over the past four years, CHAP has become a driving force in conserving, researching, and sustainably managing the Chilterns rich archaeological and historic environment.

As an independent social enterprise, CHAP CIC will broaden its reach, offering Chilterns-focused archaeological consultancy, community engagement, educational outreach and specialist training. It will continue to collaborate closely with the Chilterns National Landscape, contributing to flagship projects including Not Bourne Yesterday, the Chilterns Chalk Streams Project and Mend the Gap.

Reflecting on the journey, Dr Wendy Morrison, former Heritage and Archaeology Manager at the Chilterns National Landscape, said: “In my 8 years working with the Chilterns team, I am proud to have helped bring heritage and archaeology to fore in the everyday workings of all aspects, and it has been a real privilege to work with people who care about looking after this wonderful chalk environment we call home.”
