Accessibility vision for Rickmansworth Aquadrome

The Chilterns National Landscape supports ambitious plans to improve accessibility at Rickmansworth Aquadrome.

Rickmansworth Aquadrome is one of the most popular and accessible countryside destinations adjacent to the Chilterns. Comprising two lakes and bordered by the River Colne and the Grand Union Canal, the site is home to a rich variety of wildlife and habitats. Visitors can enjoy an extensive range of routes, walks, play areas, a café and opportunities to connect with nature in peaceful surrounds. Easily accessible transport links from Rickmansworth, or making use of the free car park, makes it an ideal day out for people of all ages and abilities.

Annette Weiss, Head of Engagement and Partnerships at the Chilterns National Landscape recently visited Rickmansworth Aquadrome to meet with Three Rivers District Council and learn more about their proposal to improve accessibility across the site while enhancing and protecting its important natural habitats for future generations.

She said “Access for all is a core value for us at the Chilterns National Landscape, and an important part of our role is working with and supporting partners to develop and improve accessibility at their sites. We do this by providing advice and through our Access for All grant programme.”

As part of this commitment, the Chilterns National Landscape has funded an Access Guide and video for Rickmansworth Aquadrome, helping visitors plan their trip with confidence and better understand the facilities and routes available on site.

The Chilterns National Landscape is also supporting Three Rivers District Council as it prepares a National Lottery Heritage Fund application, due to be submitted this autumn. If successful, the bid could secure around £5 million to deliver major conservation and community engagement activity through to 2030.
